Speaking to the media can be stressful, especially in a foreign language. But if a good student meets an experienced trainer it works.
Each year in October UNHCR presents the winner of the prestigious Nansen Award. This year’s winner is Azizbek Ashurov, a dedicated young Kyrgyz lawyer. His work was key for making Kyrgyzstan the first country in the world to end statelessness.
In the past weeks I coached him for media appearances and public speaking, and he turned out to be a brilliant student. What a pleasure to work with someone like him!
This human rights lawyer helped thousands of stateless people feel like they belong again. 🤝
